As mentioned in my previous post, I'm testing whether Napoleon Hill's 80-year old success guidebook, Think and Grow Rich, can still empower leaders and personal brands today. Each month in 2017, we are diving into 1 of his 13 "success principles." You can download the full Think and Grow Rich book and audio book at my blog at ChrisBartell.com
Since Love is the foundation of faith systems across the planet, February is the perfect month to dive in to Hill's second Principle of Success: Faith. Faith is the key element to keeping your "desire fire" burning bright. (Desire is the first of Hill's success principles. You can read more about the Principle of Desire in my previous post here.)
While Faith is most often something "owned" by religion, what we believe in, about and of ourselves is the driving force in success and goal achievement. Desire gives us the passion, the spark, that lights the fire of our success and goal achievement, but Faith is the fuel that keeps the fire burning bright. If we lose our belief, the fire dies and so do our dreams.
Belief will Empower or Destroy Your Dreams
While belief can empower your dreams and desires, limiting beliefs will destroy them. Limiting beliefs are the doubts and fears that hold us back. They keep us tied safely to the dock. But if we have Faith that our boat can get us to the destination, despite rough seas, adventure awaits!
What are your limiting beliefs? And how can you successfully combat them? The first step is to recognize those fears and doubts. The next step is to slay those dragons! You must uncover the truth that you can and will succeed and how you will do so. Here's a worksheet that will help guide you along the way.
We also need, or have the wisdom to obtain, the skills, tools and team to reach the goal. The worksheet above will help you discover those needs, but that's where Hill's 11 other Think and Grow Rich laws or principles come in to play. I am finding that these are the foundational elements of success used by the most successful and influential leadership coaches today. To recap, here they are:
- Desire: what do you really, really want?
- Faith: what do you believe?
- Auto-Suggestion: what are you telling yourself?
- Specialized Knowledge: what do you specialize in?
- Imagination: get creative!
- Organized Planning: creating tools to help you achieve.
- Decision: Tony Robbins' favorite!
- Persistence: Stephen Covey's favorite!
- Mastermind: gathering your tribe together.
- Transmutation: using your energies to engage, not to escape.
- Subconscious Mind: another Tony Robbins favorite.
- The Brain: feed that gray matter!
- The 6th Sense: spirituality and mindfulness. Meditation anyone?
If you have never read Think and Grow Rich, or it's been a long time, I encourage you do so, or listen to the audio book. (You'll find both free to download here.) While the language is a bit old-school, I'm finding the teachings as relevant today as ever.
To your success!
